Pfano Nefale

Exhibit Tourism and Recreation Agency

Pfano Nefale is a community development leader, social entrepreneur, and Master’s candidate in Sports, Recreation, and Exercise Sciences at the University of the Western Cape. Holding degrees in Recreation and Leisure Studies and Sports Management, he bridges academic research with actionable community solutions across the Limpopo Province

As founder of Exhibit Recreation and Tourism Agency and project leader behind the Vhembe Eco-Connect initiative, Pfano drives innovation by establishing tech-driven, sustainable tourism hubs in the Vhembe District. By integrating localized digital booking platforms, sustainable eco-management, and active adventure experiences such as hiking, camping, and cultural tours he directly transforms empirical research on youth leisure into economic growth. A Mandela Washington Fellowship Finalist, Pfano is dedicated to uplifting rural tourism, protecting fragile local ecosystems, and creating lasting employment for youth

I am Vele Funanani Ayanda, 24 years old, a tourism student at Vhembe TVET College from Ngwenani Ha Themeli Village, Thohoyandou.

I am passionate about tourism, specifically preserving Venda culture and protecting our sacred sites – Lake Fundudzi, Thathe Vondo, Phiphidi Waterfalls and sacred forests – which struggle due to no network, no information, no local guides and littering.

I am dedicated and committed to achieving my goals: to pursue my studies, develop a practical environment for other students, and create low-cost solutions that create jobs for our youth and keep communities involved.

I have come up with “Venda Smart Trails for a Smart Future” adapted for Vhembe. It is a low-cost offline idea using QR posts with elders’ stories in Tshivenda and English, solar smart bins, SMS wildlife alerts, and a Sibasa recycling hub turning waste into crafts and jobs.

This idea will simplify access for tourists and locals to our cultural and natural attractions.

I am an electronic engineering student at the Namibia University of Science and Technology in my final year of studies, and I am passionate about technology and how it has the power to completely transform human existence. I have explored the complex worlds of electronic systems, circuits, and communication technologies over my academic career, developing my abilities and broadening my knowledge base to harness the potential of innovation for societal improvement. My intense interest in electronic engineering is a result of my enthusiasm with the countless opportunities it offers to improve human lives. I am fascinated by the number of ways that technology can be used to address urgent global issues and raise people’s quality of life everywhere, from improving healthcare solutions to optimizing energy efficiency.

I actively participate in extracurricular activities and initiatives that enable me to use my knowledge in practical settings in addition to my academic endeavours. I work best in settings that encourage creativity, teamwork, and practical learning, whether I’m working with peers on research projects or taking part in hackathons to solve challenging issues. Through these experiences, I have gained a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of electronic engineering as well as priceless problem-solving and teamwork skills that are necessary for success in the profession. I’m dedicated to using my experience in electronic engineering to further good deeds and build significant solutions that influence the course of technology, in both R&D and product innovation.
I believe I have the potential to make a positive impact in the field of electronic engineering and beyond, I am eager to play a part in technological advancement and benefit others with my fundamental technical abilities, curiosity, resilience, and willingness to learn. Even though I have a vision for the future I recognize that I still have a lot to learn. As I strive towards my objectives, I am prepared to take on opportunities and overcome obstacles.
